From the beginning of its activity, the Silesian Blue Cross Foundation has organized the basics of professional help for addicts. One of the first activities was focused on people actively involved in the Alcoholics Anonymous community. As part of an EU-funded project, workshops were organized and conducted to expand the skills of people running support groups.
Throughout its development and in response to emerging needs, the Foundation has organized conferences devoted addiction related issues, the impact on the family and the phenomenon of violence. In 2015, the conference "Behavioral addictions and domestic violence" was held, addressed, among others: to health care workers, OPS employees, probation officers, police officers, educators and representatives of other professions involved in helping people in need. Two more conferences were held on behavioral addictions and their impact on social harm: in 2017, focusing on sex addiction, and in 2018, addressing e-addictions. Both were financed by the Gambling Problem Solving Fund
Thanks to cooperation with the Department of Social Policy and funding from the Bielsko-Biała City Hall, in 2019 we organized the conference "Addictions - Violence - Exclusion", which was again addressed to representatives of helping professions.
The Foundation took part in a research project on behavioral addictions, creating a consortium with the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. The scientific supervisor of the project was professor Dr. Hab. n. med. Marek Krzystanek.
Due to extensive cooperation with the National Office for Counteracting Drug Addiction, and in particular with the Fund for Solving Gambling Problems Managed by the Office, in 2016 and 2018 the Foundation organized nationwide meetings of implementers of projects financed by FRPH under the name: "Quo vadis?". They took place in Katowice (2016) and Poznań (2018) and were an opportunity to review activities, exchange experiences and good practices, discuss possible directions of development of the Fund's activities, as well as establish relationships and cooperation among organizations implementing research, preventive, educational, training and therapeutic projects related to behavioral addictions.
The Foundation is involved in local events aimed at spreading awareness of the role of mental well-being as a preventive measure against substance use or activity disorders, promoting knowledge about an emotionally healthy lifestyle, and informing people about available support in case of addiction –whether for themselves or a loved one.
