"Step by step..." - free help for addicted pregnant women and mothers with children up to 6 years old

In 2025, we started a new project "Step by step - a social and professional reintegration program for pregnant women addicted to psychoactive substances and mothers of children up to 6 years of age.

The "Step by Step..." PROJECT involves providing comprehensive assistance and support for the social and professional reintegration process of pregnant women and mothers of children under 6 years of age who are addicted to psychoactive substances, while  taking into account their specific problems and needs. As the Silesian Blue Cross Foundation, we have many years of experience in working with addicts.

WE PROVIDE: a maximum one-year stay and participation in the project for pregnant women or mothers with a child up to 6 years of age. In the period from January 2, 2025 to December 31, 2026.

PURPOSE: The main goal of the project is to improve the functioning and quality of life of project participants who are at risk of social exclusion due to the use of psychoactive substances . In particular the program aims to :

  • maintain abstinence,
  • increase the level of independence,
  • improve the social, housing and professional situation,
  • start/continue education,
  • Acquire /increase the ability to navigate the labor market and psychosocial skills
  • resolve crisis situations and legal/ administrative problems.

WE PROVIDE (within a maximum of 12 months):

1. A safe stay (accommodation, meals, laundry services ) at the Readaptation Center run by the Silesian Blue Cross Foundation.

2. Participation in a comprehensive social and professional reintegration program, including: individual addiction psychotherapy aimed at preventing relapses and developing competences in this area, support of an individual reintegration assistant, legal consultations, professional activation - developing professional competences, taking up employment, establishing cooperation with aid institutions and organizations with which the participants will be able to cooperate after completing their participation in the project. Additionally: emergency assistance depending on needs (e.g season appropriate clothing, chemical and hygiene products, etc.)

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:

- self registration of the participant or registration - with consent - by third parties (e.g., family, probation officer, therapist, etc.);

- A recruitment interview in person or remote ending with the signing of a contract specifying the principles of cooperation and an individual reintegration plan, and a plan for further steps.

PARTICIPATION CRITERIA:

- a pregnant woman addicted to psychoactive substances and maintaining abstinence (exclusion criterion is a high-risk pregnancy requiring specialist medical care or hospitalization),

- an addicted woman maintaining abstinence, the mother of a child under 6 years of age, and is the primary caregiver (exclusion criterion: illness or disability of the mother or child requiring specialized care or hospitalization). Each mother can  participate with a maximum of one child.
